A World War I "Merci" car at The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw, Georgia. In 1949 each state recieved a car as a gift from France. 43 of the 49 boxcars are still in existence. The state boxcars of Massachusetts, Illinois, Nebraska, Connecticut, and New Jersey are known to have been destroyed, and the Colorado boxcar has been missing since 1954, and its current whereabouts remain unknown. |
