A reconstruction of the Shiloh Methodist Church building which gave its name to the Battle of Shiloh on April 6 and 7, 1862. Shiloh, ironically, is Hebrew for “house of peace.” 23,746 men were killed, wounded, or missing within a two-mile radius of the church in the Battle of Shiloh. Two days of fighting produced more casualties than in every one of America’s previous wars combined.
